Spread along 600 vertical feet of a sun-washed western slope of the Mayacamas range, our 120-acre Amapola Creek ranch borders the highly acclaimed Monte Rosso Vineyard, home to our Viñas Antiguas Zinfandel. The red, iron-oxide volcanic soils we share with our esteemed next-door neighbor have yielded superb wines for over a century.
The 2018 growing season was one to remember. With a cool start to the season with spring bloom lasting longer than usual but our fruit set was consistent across the board. The summer brought us moderate temperatures with a few heat spikes midway through letting the fruit develop at their own rate. A cooler fall left us with a few extra weeks of hang time to develop the precious flavors and rewarded those who waited. 2018 will be one of the best vintages we have seen in a while.
Quality is more important to us than yields. That commitment shows in this Cabernet Sauvignon, made exclusively with fruit from our estate vines. The wine was aged for 24 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels. This dense, concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon displays a wealth of intense black cherry, blackberry, currant and cassis aromas. Silky and seamless on the palate, the wine reveals complex layers of luscious black fruit flavors that meld with oak nuances and polished, ripe tannins throughout a remarkably persistent finish.
This wine is unfined and unfiltered. Drink now or hold for 10-15 years.
