Wines Worthy of the Red Carpet

Wine Country Girl
- 06/14/2010

"...The 2005 Amapola Creek Zinfandel is a BIG wine with complex characteristics. Robust ripe fruit onthe nose boasts aromas of black cherry and cassis. The flavors on the palate show ripe blackberrywith a hint of sweet tobacco. There is a unique minerality in this wine which mirrors the complexvolcanic ash soils of the land. The lasting finish is rich with ripe tannins, vanilla and toasted oak. Thisis a superbly crafted zinfandel! The wine is unfiltered and unrefined. I paired this outstandingzinfandel with a grilled pear salad and soft ripened St. Agur blue cheese.

The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon was produced from a very limited yield from Amapola Creek’sexclusive estate vines. This luscious cab is seductive and aromatic on the nose with essences of anisand spices. The mouth feel is soft and silky with flavors of ripe black currant and plumb. Theremarkably consistent finish displays soft ripe tannins and hints of oak, vanilla and spice. This lovelyCabernet Sauvignon showcases artisan winemaking at its best! The wine is unfiltered and unrefined.I paired this exceptional cab with grilled skirt steak and herbed polenta with goat cheese and roastedtomatoes...."

Amapola Creek, consisting of 20 acres of certified organic vineyards, is located on the western slopes of the Mayacamas mountains, which separate Napa and Sonoma counties, where the terminating foothills add heft to the Sonoma Valley appellation..."

Sonoma's Best Cabernet
Best of the Best: Amapola Creek 2005
Decanter - Stephen Brook
- 09/15/2009

"... The hand of the winemaker plays an equally large part, and Sonoma is fortunate in having local winemakers of great experience and skill. Richard Arrowood, who ruled over Chateau St Jean in the 1970s and 1980s, and has had his own eponymous Sonoma Valley winery for many years, produces truly sumptuous Cabernets that show complexity and vigour.... Meet Alis Arrowood

"...Alis Demers was one of the original Callaway Girls, and she was very good at it. It is easy to see why. Watching her in action — at this year’s Nantucket Wine Festival, for example — is like watching an updated version of a classic. She is still beautiful, still unpretentious, still very clever, and she still excels at the face-to-face, personal relationship strategy that served her so well as a Callaway Girl. As one of the top saleswomen of wines like dry Johannisberg Riesling, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, Alis Demers was well-versed in the wines of Callaway’s competitors. At the time that included the Chardonnays of Chateau St. Jean of Sonoma, where Richard Arrowood was the winemaker..."
